Bio
Singer-Songwriter
Piano Vocals Flute , also writer, poet, photographer
My name is Janine Federowicz and I was born and raised in the Greater Binghamton area of New York State, also called the Southern Tier. I have typically written songs by inspiration; when I need to write a song for someone's birthday, graduation, or special event I will intentionally sit at the piano and do so, but mostly, I could be sitting on the couch, 'crying' about something, or climbing a mountain, happy, and a riff, melody, and/or lyric will come. It's a gift, a gift from God is how I see it.
Growing up taking piano lessons, then flute, I sang with family at church here and there with a brother who often led the folk group, and whom himself is a composer and accompanies on several of my compositions. Having played out in multiple coffeehouses, Open Mics, and sometimes as a Street performer busking in the Boston area, as well as locally in my hometown, and surrounding towns, I pay my bills with my career in teaching, first Elementary, then, and currently, Music. I have also while having a family, written for newspapers, and/ or contributed articles over the years. I've been fortunate, being able to travel and use my overall privileged upbringing to see the world. But too, God gave me a heart to care, to listen, (as I had to given my placement in my large family, the 'middle child of the third triad', and so meeting nice Haitian friends in Boston during the 90's compelled me to learn more, travel there, but also to write about it. Having a degree in Mass Communications at B.U. gave me the opportunity to write songs about things I learned, saw, read..attending multiple lectures at Brandeis, Harvard, Copley Square, and other places that were open to the public. Growing up I just enjoyed reading Newsweek, Time, and have always been interested in World Politics, and then too, religions, people. I think a lot of my songs are generated from those interests, and then the normal heartaches, pain,..and then there was and is the Lord, who called me to dig into the Word more and truly get to know Him, and begin that unending and eternal journey. (He put people in my life, great, loving people, brothers and sisters, in Christ, we say, and so songs were and are inspired by my faith: my faith in God, my faith in Jesus, His Son. )
I grew up with a brother who introduced me to much music as did the older four who loved the Beatles. My older sisters played fun songs in their room, and we'd dance, sing, and goof around. Suffice it to say, some songs are reggae-ish, one inspired by a Blues piano teacher, and the years of piano and theory training, as well as often playing on Worship teams, I don't know; they are what they are. My genre? Pop, maybe, folksy, I guess, slow ballads, and really just kind of lyrically driven, and like I said, God-inspired, or just life inspired and this is how I endured and expressed/express myself. Thank you for reading, visiting my website, purchasing my songs if you do, and frankly, just for listening.
My goal is to be able to support myself through my craft as a songwriter. I care about this country, my countrymen, my students, and really people and children all over this beautiful world. I hope you enjoy my songs, and I ask that if you like my songs to support me in any way you can. Thank you. I created this website also because I like to do photography, write, write poems, , and do those things which make us feel alive. Please sign up on my mailing list. Please check out some of my 'Content Creations' on Youtube. Thanks for visiting and hopefully embarking on this musical journey with me! I pray hopefully that a song or two will be pleasing to your ear, and that it will, they will, resonate with you somehow. This is a process for me, so please be patient as I strive to 'do my thing' with help from a few, when time allows.
